MUSICAL THEATER

Summer Musical Theatergrades 1 – 6  Spend the summer being a star in this six-week musical theater production!  A full experience – from learning to audition to a final performance, this class includes proper singing technique, choreography, acting, and performance skills. Parents get involved with costumes, set, and production. Attendance is required for both performances: July 24th and 25th.  Enrollment is limited.

Spotlight Theater  grades 7 – 12   This three-week intensive program offers vocal training, choreography, acting, and showmanship!   Parents get involved with costumes, set, and production. Attendance is required for the performances on June 26th and 27th at Mountain View High School Spartan Theatre. See below for audition information.  This production is sponsored by MVHS Choirs. SUMMER CAMPS

Music & Dance Camp – age 4 – 10  Students will learn different styles of dance and movement, including jazz, ballet and hip hop!  Learn to choreograph a solo or small group dance and perform for a small audience.  Get hands-on musical experience in our piano lab, enjoy creative art projects, play games, and sing fun camp songs!

Rhythm Camp – age 4 – 10  Students will have hands-on experience with percussion, piano, bells, and movement.  Explore the wonderful world of rhythm while making music with percussion instruments, hand bells, xylophones and pianos.  You won’t want to miss our “Stomp Session.”

5-day session: Monday July 13 – Friday July 17, 2020  9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Music & Art Camp age 4 – 10 Join us for our longest-running camp and let your kids be creative with hands-on painting, clay, mosaics and drawing projects!  Participate in musical stories, rhythm and instrumental ensembles, and experience our newly upgraded piano lab! Enjoy daily camp songs, games, and drama activities!

5-day session: Monday July 20 – Friday July 24, 2020  9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Instrument Camp – ages 4 – 10  Students will get hands-on experience with orff and rhythm instruments and piano lab, and opportunities to try out recorder, violin, guitar, as well as woodwind and brass instruments.  Have fun creating your own unique instruments, and spend the week making music with friends!

Broadway Babies – age 4 – 7  It’s show time for the little ones!  This four-day workshop is the a great opportunity for young children to participate in an age-appropriate mini-musical.  Broadway Babies learn to sing, dance, act, make their own costumes, props and sets, and enjoy games, fun piano ensembles and camp songs. Performance is Thursday August 6th 1:00 – 1:30 PM.

SUMMER CLASSES

Pathways age 4 – 6  This comprehensive curriculum is taught through four age-appropriate development principles:

  1. Hearing – each child learns to listen carefully, developing the ability to concentrate, discriminate, identify, and enjoy the relationship of sounds
  2. Rhythm – children respond to patterns in songs and games with large and small body movement
  3. Reading – each child learns to identify the symbols of music, approaching music-reading as a natural extension of the listening process
  4. Playing – children develop facility at the keyboard, coordinating and refining the areas of hearing, moving and reading

Piano lessons are saved for a later time, after the child has had a broad introduction to reading and understanding music.  Pathways students enjoy musical games, crafts, and musical stories.   Materials: I Can Play Keyboard Series and Hello Music Workbooks

Young Musicians / Advanced Pathways – age 5 – 6  Children who are in Kindergarten learn best when taught through a whole child approach to music—singing, moving, creating, and learning through a wide range of experiences.   Young Musicians students may choose to continue as general music majors with no practice required, or choose to begin skill development on piano, in which lessons are carefully planned for the child’s age, physical development, and concentration level.  Majoring in piano requires an instrument at home, and the child and the parent need to make a commitment to practice outside of class time.   Materials: The Young Musician Keyboard Book, Hello Music, assignment books, and additional individually selected materials.

Adventures  grades 1 – 3   Students participate in large group activities, small group centers, and individual projects to allow musical growth through positive experiences. Singing, musical games, music-reading, rhythmic activities, and skill development in listening promote FUN while learning about music. Students use the keyboard in our piano lab to explore, create, read musical symbols, and enjoy ensemble participation. Adventures students may choose to sign up as general music majors with no practice required, or choose to begin skill development on piano or recorder, in which lessons are carefully planned for the child’s age, physical development, and concentration level. Kaleidoscope – grades 4 – 7  Students develop musical appreciation and skills through learning centers, ensembles, listening, music history, and composition activities.  All students are taught proper vocal, piano, and music-reading skills and basic theory. Kaleidoscope students may choose from the following majors for a group lesson within class time: piano or recorder, which requires an instrument at home, and a commitment to practice outside of class time.  Students may choose to enroll as a general major, which requires no at-home practice.    Materials: Kaleidoscope Activity Books, Just Playing Piano Series, assignment books, and additional individually selected materials.

Percussion Ensemble – age 9+ Intermediate and advanced students will participate in a variety of styles and percussion instruments.  Enrollment subject to assessment from the teacher. 

Summer Percussion Ensemble: June 10 – July 29, 2020 Wednesday 7:00 – 8:00 PM    TEACHER: Niles Flynn   

FIXED TUITION: $220 ($140 if enrolled in an additional Music School private lesson– deduction to be applied by the office after enrollment has been completed)

Group Piano  adults age 16+  Beginning and intermediate piano students will learn solos and ensembles, skill development and technique, music-reading, and improvisation.  Students are offered opportunities to perform solos, duets or ensembles in student recitals. Group Piano is 60 minutes weekly, with optional practice time before and after class.  Materials include the Just Playing series, and additional supplementary repertoire.  Materials fees are billed separately.

Musical Treats and Music Box Workshops Parents welcome! Give your child a head start in exploring music and learning through happy, positive experiences.  Enjoy singing, listening, rhythmic/musical movement, and hands-on activities with the piano, bells, xylophones, and percussion instruments, as well as age-appropriate crafts and games.  Sign up for one or more sessions.

Rock Academy Workshop ages 8+ (adults welcome!) Get hands-on experience with different instruments, and be in the band!  Beginners and musicians of all levels welcome.  Workshop ends with a short performance for friends and family.
